Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and supervision of the respiratory therapy staff during assigned shifts.
  • Delegate tasks and monitor clinical staff performance daily, documenting any deviations from established protocols.
  • Develop and manage work schedules to align staffing with patient care requirements.
  • Provide technical support and emergency coverage for respiratory staff.
  • Deliver routine and emergency patient care services as necessary.
  • Act as a consultant for patient care inquiries from staff, nursing, and physicians, serving as a liaison among these groups.
  • Facilitate new employee orientation and contribute to the hiring process.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and maintenance of blood gas analysis equipment.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate payroll records.
  • Support ongoing staff training programs.
  • Contribute to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives and assist in policy review.
  • Help develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform troubleshooting on the Meditech system.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies for the department.
  • Conduct arterial punctures and blood gas analyses.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of therapeutic and emergency equipment.
  • Assist in the development and management of operational and capital budgets.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred.
  • Completion of management-related coursework.
  • A minimum of two years of critical care experience.
  • Preferred: Two years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
  • One year of management experience.
  • Virginia Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
  • BLS certification.
  • Preferred: Registered Respiratory Therapist certification.
  • Current PALS and ACLS certifications.
