Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Acute Patient Care Technician to join our team at Fresenius Medical Care North America. As a key member of our Inpatient Services Hemodialysis Health Care team, you will play a vital role in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients in the acute setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care under the direct supervision of a Hemodialysis Registered Nurse for assigned patients in the dialysis suite.
  • Report and document all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN.
  • Promote and assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
  • Support the FMCNA commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) Activities.
  • Set up and prime equipment as directed by the Fresenius Nurse for renal replacement therapies.
  • Assure the dialysis machine has been set up, tested, and found to be safe for dialysis treatment.
  • Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
  • Report any difficulties in cannulation to the FMCNA RN as permitted by state requirements.
  • Accurately document information related to patient treatment.
  • Calculate and entry of individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed.
  • Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including narrow venous limits (NVL 160).
  • Collect, label, and ensure timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory per facility policy.
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician's order or as directed by the FMCNA RN.
  • Monitor patient's response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to the FMCNA RN.
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment.
  • Report any change or unusual findings to the FMCNA RN.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma required.
  • At least 6 months' experience in a related field (EMT, Surgical Technicians, Army, Phlebotomists, and technicians) preferred.
  • Must obtain CCHT within 18 months of hire.
  • Effective communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.

Day-to-day work includes personal computer work while standing and sitting, interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians. The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
