In this position, you will be entrusted with the safe administration of prescribed medications and treatments as outlined in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and Treatment Administration Record (TAR). You will also provide personal care and general nursing support to residents as required, ensuring that all aspects of care and services are delivered effectively, including Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), maintaining room cleanliness, facilitating scheduled activities, and catering to individual service plan needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the self-administration of medications within the Memory Care Department, adhering to Federal and State regulations as well as UPS guidelines under the direction of licensed nursing personnel.
  • Accurately count and document all narcotics with authorized personnel prior to accepting medication keys, and report any discrepancies to a supervisor immediately.
  • Order necessary medications and treatments from the designated pharmacy, and inform responsible parties when supplies are low.
  • Alert supervisors when medication supplies fall below two days and have not yet been received.
  • Verify the accuracy of all medications received against pharmacy labels and MAR, notifying pharmacy and Health & Wellness of any inconsistencies.
  • Ensure proper storage of all medications, keeping topical treatments separate from oral medications.
  • Label all opened vials or bottles appropriately and follow pharmacy protocols regarding their usage duration.
  • Conduct weekly inspections of medications to remove any expired items.
  • Ensure that all current MARs are reconciled with new MARs during transition periods, reporting any discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Remove discontinued medications from the medication cart and return them to the supervisor.
  • Assist residents with personal care tasks, including bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, and meal assistance.
  • Provide general nursing care, including monitoring vital signs, temperatures, blood pressure, and weights.
  • Document relevant information in daily logs as required and communicate any concerns to supervisors.
  • Respond to resident calls and assist with their needs as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness of medication carts at the end of each shift and restock as necessary.
  • Participate in staff training and in-service sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping, including preparation of medical charts for new admissions and readmissions, ensuring completeness within regulatory timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of one month of relevant experience preferred.
  • Certifications: Current Medication Technician certification as per state regulations.
  • Language Skills: Proficient in English to perform job duties and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
