About the Role:
Piedmont Eastside Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Technician to join our Behavioral Health team. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with psychiatric illnesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, demonstrating competency with treatments, procedures, and equipment appropriate to the clinical setting and hospital policy.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to provide appropriate care for psychiatric and/or chemical dependency patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development, range of treatment and care of patients appropriate to ages of patients served.
- Gather data and document patient care.
- Promote customer service initiatives along with Piedmont Eastside Medical Center's Service Values.
- Document all patient care, observed patient behaviors by using the nursing process, based on the nursing process, established hospital policies and procedures, unit-specific policies and procedures, and/or Standards of Care/Practice.
- Serve as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient's right to privacy by protecting confidential information.
- Participate and cooperate in the unit-based Performance Improvement process.
- Follow established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care that results in patient harm or potential harm.
- Attend in-service presentations and complete all mandatory education requirements timely.
- Utilize treatment model and nursing process for individual care to meet needs of patients.
- Demonstrate ability to perform technical skills and procedures.
- Promote compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.
- Provide total hygiene care, including skin care, bathing, toileting, etc.
- Assist with patient ambulation in room, hall, and bathroom.
- Assist in feeding patients, offering fluids and snacks, recording amounts consumed.
- Document vital signs and inform nurse of any change in patient status.
- Assist with stocking supplies and maintain a clean working environment.
- Assist co-workers to meet patient care needs.
- Implement ordered level of observation (e.g., q 15 mins, line of sight, or 1:1) and document observation in the medical record.
- Regular, punctual, and dependable attendance.
- As a crisis prevention intervention trained staff member, respond appropriately to a manpower request.
- Actively seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Use systems to report potential patient safety issues.
- Use Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
- Each round performed is a Purposeful round.
Qualifications:
- MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school graduate or equivalent.
- MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Entry Level.
- MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW: N/A.
- ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: BLS certification required. Certification from a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician program preferred. One year of patient care experience preferred.
