We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Operations and Strategic Planning to join our team at the Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments. - Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to advance our office's goals and objectives.
- Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Budget Management: Manage budgetary resources effectively to support programs and initiatives.
- Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with African community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
- Event Planning: Organize and participate in community events, forums, and meetings to address community needs and concerns.
- Policymaking: Collaborate with policymakers, District departments, and external partners to advocate for policies that benefit African communities.
- Program Development: Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and initiatives that promote the well-being of African residents.
- Team Management: Supervise and support a diverse team of staff members, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
- Communication: Serve as a spokesperson for our office, representing the Director in media interviews, public speaking engagements, and community forums.
- Reporting: Prepare reports, presentations, and communications materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Funding: Identify funding opportunities and manage grant applications to support our office's programs and initiatives.
- Experience: 3-5 years of community organizing, stakeholder engagement, or advocacy experience, preferably in a government or nonprofit setting and with demonstrated leadership and management roles.
- Language Skills: Ability to speak and write fluently in French, Amharic, and/or other African languages.
The work is performed primarily in-person in an office setting. Times in the field are permitted when there is a related event.
Residency RequirementThere is a legal requirement that each new appointee to the Excepted Service either:
- be a District of Columbia resident at the time of appointment; or
- become a District resident within one hundred eighty (180) days of appointment.
The law also requires that Excepted Service employees remain District residents during the duration of the individual's appointment. Failure to remain a District resident for the duration of the appointment will result in forfeiture of employment.
