Position Overview:

This role is pivotal in delivering direct oversight and guidance to team members, ensuring the smooth functioning of lumber mill operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold the highest safety standards at all times, leading by example and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with management and fellow supervisors to enhance productivity.
  • Oversee operations to guarantee optimal output with maximum efficiency.
  • Promote a culture of transparent and respectful communication.
  • Work alongside peers and management to formulate production schedules and budgets, coordinating material flow in and out of the work area.
  • Address operational, scheduling, and production challenges as they arise.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to boost productivity, minimize costs, and enhance the quality and recovery of produced lumber.
  • Proactively manage and reduce downtime through effective analysis and solution-finding.
  • Supervise, train, and coordinate the work and cross-training of the department's crew.
  • Engage with production and maintenance teams to meet targets and address performance issues professionally.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Compile necessary operational reports (e.g., work hours, production levels, quality assessments, etc.).
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all machinery, equipment, and workspaces, collaborating with maintenance teams for preventive upkeep and repairs.
  • Provide continuous coaching and mentorship to employees, identifying potential future leaders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for departmental operations, including attendance and counseling records.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process for new hires.
Required Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Familiarity with lumber manufacturing and sawmill operations is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • A desire to lead and support a skilled team in a dynamic setting.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze situations and propose solutions.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as necessary.

Hood Industries offers a competitive salary along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and life insurance, available after completing one month of continuous full-time employment.
