Position Overview:

This role entails providing direct oversight and guidance to team members to enhance the functionality of a lumber mill.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold the highest safety standards consistently, leading by example and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Mill Manager, Superintendent, and fellow supervisors to maximize productivity.
  • Oversee operations to achieve planned output with optimal efficiency.
  • Encourage a culture of transparent and respectful communication.
  • Work alongside peers and supervisors to formulate production schedules and budgets, coordinating material flow in and out of the work area.
  • Address operational, scheduling, and production challenges as they arise.
  • Identify and manage opportunities to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve the quality and recovery of lumber.
  • Actively minimize downtime through prompt analysis and solution-finding.
  • Supervise, train, and coordinate the work and cross-training of the department's crew.
  • Engage production and maintenance teams to meet targets and address any deficiencies professionally.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Prepare necessary operational reports, including work hours, production levels, and quality assessments.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all machinery, equipment, and work areas, collaborating with Maintenance for preventive upkeep and repairs.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to employees, identifying potential future leaders.
  • Maintain documentation related to department operations, including attendance and counseling notices.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process for new hires.
Required Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Familiarity with lumber manufacturing and sawmill operations is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities are necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment is crucial.
  • A desire to lead and support a skilled team in a fast-paced setting is important.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook, is necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure is essential.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills to assess situations and propose solutions are required.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as needed.
