Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is in search of a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring that all production-related machinery operates efficiently and effectively.

The successful candidate will utilize various tools and mechanical methods to repair, replace, and restore components (belts, motors, hoses, etc.) on production machinery or facility infrastructure within a lumber manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Employ all necessary tools to safely maintain and repair manufacturing equipment.

- Conduct repairs and replacements of belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other machinery parts in a production setting.

- Monitor the inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies, initiating reorders as needed.

- Perform metalworking tasks such as welding, cutting, and fabricating when required.

- Repair and replace hydraulic units, ensuring proper lubrication of equipment (chains/sprockets).

- Occasionally operate a forklift, mobile crane, or other rolling stock.

- Maintain open communication with colleagues and management regarding maintenance concerns.

- Continuously assess the operation of plant equipment and systems to minimize unexpected downtime, proactively address issues, and identify areas for enhancement.

- Implement initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.

- Uphold safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures. Respond to repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or HR/Safety Manager.

- May have additional duties related to plant operations as assigned.

- Flexibility to work various shifts and weekends as necessary.

Qualifications:

- Strong problem-solving abilities.

- Capacity to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

- Sound judgment with the ability to make timely and effective decisions.

Required Skills/Experience:

- A minimum of 2 years of experience in plant maintenance or millwright roles, with a solid foundation in mechanical and hydraulic systems.

- High School Diploma or GED is required; an Associate's Degree or technical training is preferred.
