Job Summary

As an Optometric Ophthalmic Technician at Advocate Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our ophthalmic team. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing exam rooms, organizing supplies, and assisting physicians with patient exams. You will also be responsible for performing basic diagnostic tests, visual screenings, and documenting patient information accurately and timely.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, and ordering supplies
• Assist physicians with patient exams, including preparing patients for exams and obtaining medical history
• Perform basic diagnostic tests and visual screenings, such as visual field/acuity, tonometry, and color vision testing
• Document patient information accurately and timely, including medical history, medications, and chief complaint
• Maintain and calibrate equipment, and sterilize instruments using appropriate techniques and procedures

Requirements

• High School Graduate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday

Working Conditions

• Will be exposed to mechanical, radiation, electrical, and chemical hazards, as well as blood and body fluids
• Must wear protective clothing or equipment as necessary
