Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Optometric Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our eye care team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support to our ophthalmologists and optometrists.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, including cleaning, stocking, and ordering supplies.
  • Assist patients with visual screenings, including visual field and acuity tests, tonometry, and topography.
  • Obtain and record patient medical history, medications, and chief complaints.
  • Document and communicate accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions.
  • Assist with scheduling patients for post-operative, surgery, and specialist appointments.
  • May assist with basic or routine surgical procedures and post-operative care or treatment.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • High School Graduate.
  • No experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrates a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, electronic mail, and electronic medical records systems.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch. Will be exposed to mechanical, radiation, electrical, and chemical hazards, as well as blood and body fluids, and must wear protective clothing or equipment as necessary.
