Position Overview – Construction Project Engineer

Caliagua, Inc. is a reputable general engineering contractor with a legacy of excellence since 1978. Our expertise spans the private, commercial, and building sectors, particularly within the waterworks and wastewater industries, serving various public agencies.

We hold California State licenses, including A & B licenses, as well as C-4 and C-36 specialty licenses. Our focus is on the construction of essential infrastructure such as Pumping Stations, Pipelines, Treatment Plants, Reservoirs, Aqueducts, and Cooling Towers, among other significant projects.

We are currently seeking a Construction Project Engineer with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the construction sector. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in project submittals, procurement processes, scheduling, and vendor/subcontractor coordination. Strong computer skills, particularly in Windows 10 and MS Office, are essential. Familiarity with computer-based project management, accounting, estimating, and scheduling software is also required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in estimating and coordinating project proposals.
  • Engage in construction planning and execution activities.
  • Schedule and oversee inspections.
  • Support the planning and execution of startup, testing, and commissioning phases for assigned projects.

The ideal candidate will exhibit strong organizational skills and a commitment to timely task completion. A drive for success and a willingness to exceed expectations are essential traits.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Conduct preliminary estimating, compile bids, and generate proposals.
  • Assist in developing construction schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Maintain and update schedules, ensuring proper distribution.
  • Review and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations during pre-construction.
  • Thoroughly review project documents to support procurement processes.
  • Document and tabulate procurement requirements for materials, equipment, and subcontracts for ongoing projects.
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders and subcontracts to meet project specifications.
  • Oversee the submittal process, managing project submittals and logs to track critical paths for approvals.
  • Assist with monthly project billing, reporting, and accounting updates.
  • Coordinate and schedule deliveries with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy.
  • Provide support to the superintendent regarding labor dispatch and material delivery.
  • Utilize 'Raken' for daily production reporting and performance tracking.
  • Manage project closeout documentation, including operating manuals and warranties.
  • Assist the Project Manager with daily operational tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; experience in the waterworks industry is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Project Engineer.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), SAGE, and Primavera P6.
