KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Produce high-quality mammograms by utilizing optimal techniques in the following areas:
    • Equipment adjustments for precision
    • Patient positioning for optimal imaging
    • Minimizing discomfort while preventing motion
    • Adjusting protective lead shields appropriately
    • Ensuring accurate patient and image identification and processing
  • Collect all necessary information for effective imaging studies, including relevant medical and surgical history.
  • Obtain additional views in ambiguous cases to preemptively address radiologist requests.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in mammography rooms and workspaces.
  • Keep precise electronic records of patient data and imaging exams by demonstrating proficiency in Electronic Medical Records, Radiology Information Systems, and Picture Archiving Communication Systems.
  • Request relevant external films and reports when necessary for correlation.
  • Educate patients regarding procedures and expectations.
  • Contact patients for additional imaging views as required.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and safety protocols, including inquiring about potential pregnancies in women of childbearing age.
  • Wear radiation monitoring devices consistently.
  • Assist with Quality Assurance by collecting and reporting necessary data, displaying required charts and notices, and performing QA testing as mandated.
  • Conduct and document Quality Control tasks as outlined by the American College of Radiology and departmental protocols.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or discrepancies to the lead QC technologist or supervisor.
  • Monitor inventory levels and place orders as needed.
  • Provide coverage for other sites or modalities as required, if cross-trained.
  • Facilitate orientation and training for new mammography technologists.
  • Exhibit effective communication and conflict resolution skills with patients, colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Maintain certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and American Registry in Mammography.
  • Retain certification through the Maine state licensing authority.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in and uphold all criteria of the MQSA EQUIP program.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of an AMA accredited radiology program.
  • ARRT certification in mammography, digital mammography, and digital breast tomosynthesis.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with radiologists.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of breast, axilla, and chest wall anatomy and physiology.
  • Proficiency in training colleagues on equipment operations.
