The Mammography Technologist plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality mammographic examinations, ensuring that each procedure is conducted with compassion and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts high-quality digital Tomosynthesis mammography exams for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Performs additional diagnostic studies as advised by the radiologist.
  • Adheres to all ARRT, ACR, and MQSA standards, utilizing exceptional positioning techniques.
  • Maintains compliance with continuing education requirements as mandated by ARRT, ACR, and MQSA.
  • Independently evaluates and ensures the quality of mammographic images.
  • Follows established safety protocols to protect both patients and self, including compliance with state radiation protection regulations.
  • Strives to provide a comfortable mammography experience with minimal discomfort.
  • Documents any incidents involving patients or staff using the appropriate reporting procedures.
  • Utilizes sterile techniques as necessary for any invasive procedures.
  • Manages and maintains adequate supplies in the work area.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and maintains a clean, organized environment.
  • Exhibits consistent and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Valid license from the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging is required.
  • Registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Advanced certification in mammography is mandatory.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification is required.
  • Completion of specialized training in mammography is essential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology as required by the AART accreditation board.
  • Understanding of safety hazards associated with mammography and bone densitometry, including radiation safety, equipment operation, and patient protection.
  • Proficient in patient positioning and stabilization techniques.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with patients, radiologists, medical personnel, and the community.
