About the Role

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room Surgical Aide to join our team. As an Operating Room Surgical Aide, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and efficient environment for our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the operating room, including setting up equipment and supplies.
  • Transport patients to and from the operating room, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Assist with patient care tasks, such as positioning and transferring patients, as well as supporting limbs during surgical procedures.
  • Perform between-case cleaning to minimize turnaround time between surgical procedures.
  • Check the status of stretchers and oxygen tanks to ensure they are ready and available for patient transport.
  • Maintain inventory levels of medical gases, including oxygen, laser mixture, nitrogen, and compressed air.
  • Deliver specimens and blood products to the laboratory or radiology, as directed by nursing personnel.
  • Clean and maintain operating room equipment, including surgical tables, mayo stands, ring stands, instrument tables, kick buckets, and IV poles.
  • Run errands as needed and directed by registered professional nurses and/or charge nurses.
  • Collaborate with other members of the surgical team to ensure each operating room is clean and all equipment is in place.
  • Perform shave prep on surgical patients, as directed, according to established guidelines and policies.
  • Determine specific waste type, including hazardous and regular waste, for proper disposal of operating room trash.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in the CSR2 Soiled room, where linen, trash, and infectious waste are stored prior to disposal via CSR/Environmental Services.
  • Communicate pertinent information regarding patient care concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Apply the principles of asepsis to maintain the integrity of the sterile field.
  • Assist and collaborate with the circulating nurse and surgical technologist to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of all general and specialty instruments, equipment, and supplies, according to established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Satisfactory references.
  • CPR training required.
