Mortgage Loan Originator Job Description

LAFCU is seeking a skilled Mortgage Loan Originator to join our team. As a Mortgage Loan Originator, you will be responsible for growing the mortgage portfolio through strategic activities, including networking, calling on area professionals, and hosting seminars.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop relationships with realtors and brokers to generate referrals and business opportunities.
  • Conduct mortgage applications, understanding members' short and long-term goals, and guiding them towards suitable mortgage solutions.
  • Ensure loan files are properly documented, including acceptance or denial, and deliver files to the mortgage processing department.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
  • Maintain accuracy on all documents with no errors, staying up-to-date with Credit Union and government standards.
  • Provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to members and associates.
  • Meet or exceed annual loan growth goals established by Management.
  • Review pipeline reports daily and report status upon Management's request.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop an effective Marketing Plan for mortgage products, services, and events.
  • Stay updated on all mortgage loan products and underwriting guidelines and procedures.
  • Offer ideas to increase product value, process ease, and system efficiency.
  • Assist Management in developing growth strategies and product offerings.
  • Maintain pipeline reports for review by Management.
Requirements:
  • 3 to 5 years of similar or related experience.
  • Established relationships with local area realtors and brokers.
  • Registration with the Nationwide Multi-state Licensing System Registry (NMLS).
Education:
  • A two-year college degree, or
  • Completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or
  • Completion of specialized training courses conducted by a vendor.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Extensive personal contact with others of a personal and sensitive nature.
  • Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level.
  • Outside contacts become important, and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills:
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Blue Sage (preferred).
  • Interpersonal skills, including demonstrated initiative, leadership, and self-motivation, ability to prioritize duties and meet deadlines, a positive attitude, dependability, and ability to maintain a regular work schedule to meet the needs of the business and punctuality.
Work Environment:

This position is hybrid, and travel will be required. A valid driver's license is necessary. The position requires the ability to serve members on their schedule, which often involves working non-traditional hours.
