Job Summary

As a proactive organization, BCNY prioritizes the health and safety of our members and staff. The Saturday Night Lights (SNL) program is a youth violence prevention initiative funded by the New York County District Attorney's Office. While the focus is on basketball and fitness, the program also integrates essential social services to support young people in reducing violence and criminal justice involvement while promoting engagement in positive activities. Coaches will not only teach basketball skills but also reinforce vital life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, and effective communication. Coaches will have the opportunity to guide students through games, scrimmages, and tournaments, fostering a competitive spirit in a supportive environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and practice to provide students with opportunities to observe, investigate, and enhance their skills.
  • Evaluate instructional content, methods, and student performance to identify strengths and weaknesses, making recommendations for curriculum improvements.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to address inappropriate conduct.
  • Participate in required departmental meetings and professional development training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Basketball Instructor/Coach with youth is essential.
  • A strong passion for health and wellness, along with knowledge of safety and technique.
  • A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with or caring for children.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for children and fellow staff members.
  • Proven leadership skills in educational, social service, or youth development settings.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification is a plus.
