Core Responsibilities

As a production employee at Smithfield, you will manage materials and utilize hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to ensure quality food products reach consumers responsibly. This role involves physically demanding tasks that require strong hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and stamina. Team members must be prepared to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime based on production needs.

Qualifications

Applicants should be willing and able to:

  • Comprehend and adhere to verbal and written instructions.
  • Engage in tasks requiring continuous and repetitive movements, including grasping and extending arms.
  • Stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
  • Work in environments with animal byproducts.
  • Handle knives (if trained).
  • Operate in cold (approximately 20-40 degrees) and hot (over 100 degrees) areas.
  • Work in wet and humid conditions.
  • Wear safety gear including hard hats, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Function in a noisy setting using personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Utilize sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
  • Adapt to strong odors.
  • Climb and navigate ladders, steps, and platforms.
  • Bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout the shift.
  • Walk considerable distances.
  • This role is physically demanding and may require lifting heavy objects, with some positions necessitating overhead lifting up to 30 lbs or single lifting of items weighing up to 60 lbs.
