Core Responsibilities

As a production employee at Smithfield, you will manage materials and utilize hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to responsibly deliver quality food to consumers. This role involves physically demanding tasks that require strong hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and stamina. Employees must be prepared to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime based on production needs.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must meet the following essential duties:

  • Ability to comprehend and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing tasks that involve continuous/repetitive movements, including grasping and extending arms.
  • Ability to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to 12 hours.
  • Willingness to work in environments with animal byproducts.
  • Proficiency in knife handling (if trained).
  • Comfortable working in cold (20-40 degrees) and hot (over 100 degrees) conditions.
  • Ability to work in wet and humid environments.
  • Willingness to wear safety gear, including hard hats, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Capability to work in noisy settings while using personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Familiarity with sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to navigate strong odors.
  • Comfortable climbing and moving on ladders and platforms.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, and twist repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Willingness to walk long distances.
  • This role is physically demanding and may require lifting up to 30 lbs repeatedly, as well as single lifts of heavy objects up to 60 lbs, potentially using mechanical assistance.
