Core ResponsibilitiesAs a production team member at Smithfield, you will manage materials and utilize hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to responsibly deliver quality food to consumers. This role involves physically demanding tasks that require excellent hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength, and endurance. Team members must be prepared to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime based on production needs.
QualificationsTo succeed in this role, an individual must effectively perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Applicants must be willing and able to:
- Comprehend and adhere to both oral and written instructions.
- Engage in tasks requiring continuous and repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and extending arms.
- Stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
- Work in environments with animal by-products.
- Handle knives (if trained).
- Operate in cold (approximately 20-40 degrees) and/or hot (over 100 degrees) conditions.
- Function in wet and humid environments.
- Wear safety gear, including hard hats, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed shoes.
- Work in noisy settings while using personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Handle sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
- Work around strong odors.
- Climb and navigate ladders, steps, and platforms.
- Bend, stoop, and twist repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Walk long distances as required.
- This position is physically demanding and may require the use of various body parts and muscle groups. Some roles may involve lifting up to 30 lbs repeatedly or lifting heavy objects up to 60 lbs with mechanical assistance.
