Job Summary

The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interactions, and role modeling to patients. This role requires sound judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care.

Responsibilities
  • Complete and record Vital Signs according to hospital policy.
  • Utilize sound judgment during assessment and observe and document any changes in a patient's appearance, behavior, or ability to work toward treatment plan goals.
  • Identify and communicate changes in a patient's condition to the Charge Nurse, providing information that assists in the development and revision of the treatment plan.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and assist patients with personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and other needs through the discharge process.
  • Employ appropriate crisis intervention techniques and respond appropriately to a psychiatric emergency.
  • Meet policy requirements in the use and documentation of seclusion and restraints.
  • Perform problem-solving and decision-making in a logical and deliberate manner, utilizing available resources.
  • Document in a clear, concise, and timely manner, utilizing appropriate clinical terminology.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to communication, environmental, and developmental needs of children, as well as issues related to adolescents, adults, and older adults.
  • Knowledgeable of seclusion and restraint systems utilized with regard to children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in the area of human services, which includes, but may not be limited to, psychology, sociology, political science, counseling, criminal justice, pastoral counseling, elementary/special education, or family therapy.
  • OR High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent, PLUS a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Human Services field, involving direct contact with the individual receiving services.
