Role Overview

The Supply Chain Engineering Specialist I is a distinctive role that merges technical expertise in engineering with a comprehensive understanding of procurement operations within the supply chain framework. This position acts as a representative on the internal change board, supporting the procurement organization dedicated to Gulfstream production. The Specialist serves as an advocate for the Procurement team throughout the production lifecycle.

  • Solid grasp of procurement methodologies and a broad understanding of various procured materials, cost assessment techniques, best practices in materials management, and terminology specific to aircraft.
  • A background in technical education, particularly in aircraft manufacturing and detailed part fabrication, is advantageous.
  • The ideal candidate will work autonomously and collaboratively in a cross-functional setting, directly engaging with the program office, design engineering, operations engineering, quality assurance, materials management, and the broader procurement team.
  • Strong project management capabilities, alongside effective negotiation and influence skills, are essential for success in this position.
  • A keen business acumen with a clear understanding of procurement processes and how they integrate with engineering functions is crucial.

Educational and Experience Criteria

A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience that equips the individual to effectively fulfill the essential job functions. A minimum of 5 years in a specific technical area or 10 years of diverse engineering experience across multiple disciplines with a Bachelor's degree. Experience credit for related advanced degrees is limited to 2 years for a Master's and 4 years for a PhD in relevant fields.

Position Objective

Operate independently and collaboratively with minimal oversight to prepare, execute, and assess analyses aimed at resolving issues and enhancing manufacturing processes within the supply chain, supporting both production and post-production activities. This encompasses the development and refinement of production methodologies and procedures concerning tooling, layout, production planning and flow, assembly techniques, and material processes and fabrication within the supply chain. Guide and influence suppliers and internal cross-functional teams through technical problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

  • Focus on supplier performance while facilitating inter-organizational and supplier interactions; contribute to the planning, development, and coordination of projects aimed at resolving supply chain manufacturing-related issues, including critical issue resolution and project management.
  • Demonstrate capability in project leadership or as a participant in cross-functional teams, driving activities and providing technical guidance to suppliers and team members.
  • Deliver clear and concise verbal and written technical communications; foster relationships with other functional groups to achieve team objectives; regularly prepare executive summaries detailing project status and outcomes.
  • Utilize existing problem-solving skills to mentor others in developing similar competencies, thereby strengthening the organization and supply chain. Implement methods to identify root causes and formulate corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Offer technical guidance to suppliers and drive initiatives that address improvement opportunities, ensuring that actions are validated and demonstrate measurable enhancements.
  • Provide on-site technical support to the supply chain, engineering, operations, and logistics teams.

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of legacy, current, and advanced manufacturing processes and engineering techniques, particularly in the aerospace sector.
  • Promote quality practices within the supply chain and the organization.
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
