Job Summary

Penn State Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in the Automated Testing Lab. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Your expertise will be essential in identifying bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyzing chemical content of fluids, and cross-matching blood for transfusion and organ transplantation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of laboratory tests, including blood, body fluid, cell, and tissue analysis.
  • Identify microorganisms, analyze chemical content of fluids, and cross-match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation.
  • Prepare cells for use in cellular therapies.
  • Contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease through accurate and timely test results.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory testing.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited program (NAACLS/ABHES) or Associate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college/university with 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semesters of biology, and twelve (12) semester hours of courses in chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
  • Proof of eligibility to sit for an applicable certification exam (ASCP, AMT, ACHI or equivalent).
  • Medical Lab Technician Certification through ASCP, AMT, ACHI or an equivalent certification agency must be obtained within 18 months of employment.
  • Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements.
