Job Title: Environmental Science Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Science Specialist to join our team at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. As an Environmental Science Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of environmental policies and regulations.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research, designing and planning technical projects, and performing technical duties in support of revisions to Arizona's State Implementation Plan under the Federal Clean Air Act. This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct air quality modeling using various models, including AERMOD, CAMx, Hysplit, MOVES, WRF, and SMOKE.
  • Calculate emission inventories from natural and anthropogenic sources using EPA-approvable methodologies.
  • Conduct statistical analyses, literature reviews, and research to better understand the nature and cause of air quality problems in the State.
  • Develop associated documents, including modeling protocols and technical support documents, emission inventory preparation plans and technical support documents, and reports and presentations of research.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, atmospheric chemistry/science, meteorology, or environmental science.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience (Masters' or Doctorate degree can substitute for 2 years of experience) for Level 2, and minimum of 5 years' experience (Masters' or Doctorate degree can substitute for 2 or 4 years of experience respectively) for Level 3.
  • Certifications required: EPI or QEP with the Board of Global EHS Credentialing or an equivalent organization in a reciprocal jurisdiction, or EIT or PE with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or an equivalent jurisdictions organization.
