Education and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. A minimum of six (6) years of experience in an avionics or electrical field; or two (2) years of accredited education in aviation electronics along with four (4) years of relevant experience. An A & P license, FCC license, or NCATT certification is preferred.

Position Purpose : Provides leadership, technical expertise, and guidance while conducting various operational and functional tests and repairs of avionics and electronic aircraft systems to ensure a defect-free aircraft. Offers superior technical expertise in testing, troubleshooting, and rectifying system discrepancies to minimize schedule impact. Demonstrates technical proficiency and leadership by defining and implementing process improvements to reduce costs while maintaining safety and quality standards. Exhibits the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to step in for the team leader, ensuring that the company's goals of safety and quality are upheld at all times while adhering to daily work plans to meet schedule requirements. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  1. Exhibits advanced technical skills and expertise in avionics and aircraft systems operational testing and troubleshooting. Provides direct training to personnel to support company cross-training objectives while fostering a safety-conscious, quality-oriented, and skilled workforce.
  2. Instructs on the installation and functional testing of electrical and avionics components and systems according to engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals, ensuring a defect-free system.
  3. Ensures quality and efficiency in all installations: troubleshoots and teaches troubleshooting processes to facilitate timely and quality repairs of malfunctioning systems.
  4. Demonstrates the skills and knowledge required to effectively and efficiently repair or replace defective components and wiring, ensuring installations meet conformity standards. Employs effective repair techniques using accepted practices, including splicing, soldering, and pinning of wiring.
  5. Oversees the performance and compliance with engineering changes and modifications as necessary.
  6. Sets up and operates required test equipment. Conducts functional and operational tests to assess performance and reliability.
  7. Diligently maintains daily logs and documentation, ensuring that all work performed on the aircraft is properly and completely recorded.
  8. As needed, pre-inspects the work of others before submitting it for inspection to minimize rework and inspection time.
  9. Provides knowledge and technical expertise in testing and maintaining test equipment and electronic systems and components as required.
  10. Enforces the company's FOD program, tool control program, 5-S program, and all safety regulations.
  11. Adapts to sudden changes in schedule.
  12. Coordinates with other disciplines regarding projects.

Additional Functions:

  1. Where necessary, instructs on the installation and functional testing of electrical and avionics components and systems according to engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals, ensuring a defect-free system.
  2. Capable of self-inspection for all avionics testing functions in applicable areas.
  3. In support of aircraft certification and final phase testing, may include flight tests on aircraft as required.

Other Requirements:

  1. Preferred proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting of other aircraft systems or disciplines beyond avionics, such as hydraulics, landing gear, flight controls, environmental controls, or structural installations and repairs.
  2. APU run qualification and engine run qualification preferred.
  3. Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  4. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
