Position Overview

The role of the Director of Student Services is pivotal in fostering a nurturing environment that promotes the moral character and civic virtues of students. The director will lead a dedicated team of professionals, including special education instructors and support staff, to cater to the diverse needs of K-12 students, ensuring they receive the necessary interventions to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. A successful candidate will demonstrate a profound understanding of the challenges faced by students and possess the empathy required to engage effectively with families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the educational journey of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), English Language Learners (ELL), and 504 plans, ensuring alignment with the academy's rigorous curriculum.
  • Coordinate and facilitate IEP and MET meetings, collaborating with staff and parents to gather essential student information.
  • Oversee the preparation and compliance of IEP/MET documentation, ensuring timely communication with all stakeholders.
  • Support general education teachers in meeting the unique educational goals of students with special needs.
  • Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations regarding student services.
  • Work closely with the headmaster to recruit and select qualified special education personnel.
  • Coordinate with external service providers to align services with student requirements.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records within the school's information system.
  • Engage in effective communication with parents and faculty to foster a collaborative educational environment.
  • Design and implement formal educational plans that promote academic achievement and positive social interactions.
  • Manage departmental budgets and ensure accurate reporting of specialized programming.
  • Educate faculty and staff on student services programming, providing necessary training and resources.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold the school's core values in all interactions.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Current licensure as a special services provider or director in South Carolina.
  • A minimum of two years of leadership experience in special education.
  • At least three years of relevant experience with a strong understanding of special education laws.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Commitment to the principles of a rigorous liberal arts education and the core virtues of the academy.
  • Compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
