Key ResponsibilitiesThe technologist will be responsible for guiding and conducting various pulmonary diagnostic assessments. All procedures are performed with only the patient and technologist present in the testing area. Strong communication and patient evaluation skills are essential.
Ensure that all tests adhere to the standards set by the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS), following the guidelines outlined in the laboratory's standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Accountable for reviewing patient test outcomes and independently determining the need for additional testing in accordance with laboratory protocols. Responsible for the calibration, proper operation, and routine maintenance of all equipment, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all tasks performed.
QualificationsA credentialed Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT), or a licensed Respiratory Therapist in the State of Minnesota qualifies for this role.
For candidates without credentials, this position requires 62 semester hours of college coursework, including biology and mathematics.
On-the-job training will be provided, with the expectation to successfully complete the CPFT (and/or RPFT) exam within three years of employment.
Approximately 6-12 months of experience is needed to gain a solid understanding of most job responsibilities in preparation for the exam.
Previous experience in patient interaction or related fields such as healthcare, coaching, childcare, or education is preferred.
Skills RequiredThe role demands independent problem-solving abilities and effective teamwork skills.
Exceptional human relations and communication skills are crucial, as 70-80% of the time will be spent instructing patients on test procedures.
A Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (to be obtained within three years of employment) or a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the State of Minnesota is required.
Current Basic Life Support training is mandatory prior to commencing in this position.
Compensation and BenefitsThis position is classified as nonexempt with a compensation rate of $34.10 per hour.

Work ScheduleThis is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. There are no weekend shifts required.Commitment to Diversity
