Job Summary

The Patient Safety and Risk Specialist will support the Sr. Manager of Patient Safety and Risk Management at Massachusetts General Hospital and Mass Eye and Ear Institute to oversee and manage hospital-wide patient safety initiatives and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily activities to foster Equity Informed High Reliability Concepts.
  • Conduct proactive risk assessments and retrospective collaborative risk reviews.
  • Interact extensively with Directors, Managers, hospital leadership, and staff in the Department of Quality and Safety.
  • Coordinate projects and improvement activities across multiple academic and operational departments.
  • Provide staff education on patient safety, non-punitive reporting, and error prevention.
  • Prepare regular presentations to board committees, patient care assessment committee, and other leadership and clinical groups.

Mentoring and Training

Participate in the orientation, training, and mentoring of department of quality and safety team members.

Requirements

Working Conditions
  • Office setting.
  • Frequent use of computer, telephone, and fax machine.
  • Occasional early or late meetings to accommodate frontline staff members' schedules.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, or similar/related clinical field.
  • Experience working in a large and complex healthcare organization.
  • A minimum of 5 years clinical experience.
  • Computer and Internet skills and experience required.
