Position Overview: The Academic Support Center Assistant plays a vital role in the daily functions of our Student Learning Centers (SLCs) at Tacoma Community College. This position is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled as students at TCC and are looking to contribute to a supportive educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and clerical support to tutoring center staff, students, and faculty.
- Welcome students warmly upon their arrival at the tutoring center, ensuring they receive timely assistance.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of the tutoring center while guiding students as necessary.
- Familiarize yourself with the resources available at the tutoring center and other Student Learning Centers to effectively assist students.
- Help students connect with the appropriate tutors for their specific subjects.
- Assist students in accessing eTutoring services.
- Maintain open and effective communication with tutoring staff and supervisors.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment as a TCC student.
- Experience in clerical work and/or customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with staff and students.
- Technological fluency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
- Commitment to diversity and cultural sensitivity in the workplace.
- Polite and professional telephone etiquette.
- Willingness to learn about campus resources and policies.
Work Schedule: This is a part-time hourly position, with varied hours during weekday afternoons and early evenings, totaling up to 16 hours per week.
Compensation: The hourly wage for this position is $28.
Benefits: Part-time hourly and student employees will accrue paid sick leave at a rate of one hour for every 40 hours worked. Additionally, non-student hourly employees may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as life and long-term disability insurance plans.
