POSITION SUMMARY:
AOSense is in search of optical physicists with a range of competencies in optical metrology, laser characterization, and optical engineering.

In the role of Optical Physicist at AOSense, you will be responsible for the design, prototyping, construction, and testing of laser systems intended for portable atom optic devices applicable in inertial navigation, geophysics, and precise timekeeping.

You will play a pivotal role in transitioning to compact and integrated photonic systems for the next generation of sensors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop compact laser systems tailored for atom-based sensors and frequency standards.

2. Design, construct, and evaluate optical frequency combs and high-finesse cavities.

3. Assess the long-term stability of photonic systems in dynamic conditions.

4. Analyze laser performance metrics such as linewidth, beam quality, and longevity.

5. Characterize optical components, materials, and systems.

6. Model laser beam propagation utilizing optical design software.

7. Facilitate the transition of photonic devices to manufacturing processes.

8. Contribute to research proposals aimed at further development and application.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven expertise in lasers, optics, optomechanics, electro-optics, and acousto-optics.

- Practical experience with optical testing equipment.

- Familiarity with single-mode optical fiber systems.

- Capability to operate and troubleshoot electronic control systems for photonic devices.

- Candidates should excel in a dynamic work environment.

- U.S. Government contracts necessitate that applicants be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Optical frequency metrology, including optical frequency combs and high-finesse cavities.

- Experience with ultrafast lasers and amplifiers.

- Knowledge of laser frequency stabilization techniques.

- Proficiency in narrow-linewidth diode lasers.

- Background in integrated photonics design and fabrication.

- Experience in micro-optic and diode chip assembly and packaging.

- Familiarity with engineering software packages such as Zemax, FRED, SolidWorks, or COMSOL.

EDUCATION:
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. (preferred), or equivalent professional experience.
