Position Overview:

The Senior Commercial Credit Officer (SCCO) is accountable for maintaining high standards in underwriting, compliance, and credit oversight within a designated portfolio, facilitating new business growth while adhering to credit risk policies and TD Bank Group's risk appetite. This role supervises the credit underwriting and administration processes within a Regional Market or Middle Market. Key responsibilities include credit evaluation and approval, team leadership, mentoring and developing credit analysts, and ensuring ongoing skill enhancement and career progression for team members. The Senior Commercial Credit Officer oversees a team of credit analysts within a market, where the size of the teams justifies this leadership position. The SCCO collaborates closely with the Credit Officer to maintain alignment with TD Bank Group's Risk Appetite Principles, including the establishment of Borrower Risk Ratings and Facility Risk Ratings for both new and existing credit relationships.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts initial research on prospective clients to assess compatibility with TD Bank products and structures while aiding in evaluations of credit requirements and alignment with TD Credit Risk Appetite.
  • Participates in site visits as necessary or requested.
  • Oversees Credit Analysts in preparing preliminary financial analyses, cash flow assessments, Borrower Risk Ratings, and term sheets used in decision-making for potential clients; supervises Officer Analysis, input of Borrower Risk Ratings, Facility Risk Ratings, Covenants, and Asset Risk Determination.
  • Ensures all team members are well-versed in and operate within applicable regulatory and compliance guidelines/policies & procedures (including but not limited to: Anti-Money Laundering, Privacy, Firewalls, Systems & Information Security, Financial Consumer Agency of Canada regulations, etc.) and confirms that all staff complete required compliance training within designated timelines.
  • Evaluates all credit applications, ensuring they deliver a comprehensive risk assessment, credit structure analysis, due diligence, and credit presentation.
  • Maintains an appropriate balance between customer risk and pricing.
  • Shares joint signature authority on credits within delegated limits and provides recommendations on all others.
  • Ensures the overall portfolio is effectively monitored and controlled, adhering to approved guidelines and established operating policies and procedures.
  • Interprets and applies TD's risk management strategies (both credit and operational).
  • Implements and manages systems to identify and mitigate operational risk issues, serving as the designated anti-money laundering officer for the unit.
  • Stays informed about changing market conditions and relevant industry trends.
  • Responsible for managing aspects of customer relationships, including reviewing reports and delinquencies, approving covenant compliance forms, and assisting in strategy development in case of failures, along with conducting monthly monitoring.
  • May lead a team of Analysts in overseeing loan covenants, loan delinquencies, and the annual review and renewal of existing credit relationships.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA or MBA candidates preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Strong skills in credit underwriting and administration.
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate risk.
  • Solid understanding of value-added credit structuring in a commercial banking context.
