SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Deliver an engaging guest experience for visitors at Knoxville Zoo through exceptional customer service and precise job execution. Team members may alternate between general event responsibilities and birthday party facilitation based on scheduling requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Exemplify and uphold the core values of Knoxville Zoo through interactions with guests and colleagues.
  • Ensure a superior guest experience by consistently providing high-quality customer service and addressing guest inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy environment for both staff and visitors.
  • Implement and uphold all zoo policies and procedures.
  • Efficiently conduct transactions in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all work areas and public spaces, including equipment.
  • Assist with various events, including corporate gatherings, social events, and birthday celebrations, which may occur after regular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Communicate engaging and accurate information about animals and conservation initiatives during events to diverse audiences.
  • Help set up and dismantle event locations within the zoo, which may involve lifting and moving equipment such as tables and chairs.
  • Support other Guest Experience operations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrate a team-oriented attitude while fostering a friendly and efficient work environment with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication abilities (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable and honest with a positive demeanor and strong work ethic.
  • Capable of lifting at least 25 pounds.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employees must possess English communication skills and be able to use a 2-way radio, email, and telephone. Hours may vary based on business needs and will include weekend and holiday shifts. Employees must tolerate extreme outdoor temperatures and weather conditions and be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Standing for extended periods on various surfaces is required. This position may involve close proximity to exotic and domestic animals, necessitating awareness of inherent dangers. Knoxville Zoo is committed to maintaining a drug-free workplace, requiring all employees to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, with periodic random drug tests.
