Position Overview

Role: Child Care Assistant (Developmental)

Salary: $15.00/hour

Location: Coast Guard Community Services Command

Work Schedule: Intermittent (0-19 hrs/week)

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements engaging early childhood educational activities utilizing diverse materials to foster the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical growth of each child.
  • Collaborates with supervisors and educators to create and execute age-appropriate curricula and programs.
  • Establishes a nurturing environment that encourages positive interactions among children, youth, and adults.
  • Leads and facilitates planned activities for participants, ensuring an enriching experience.
  • Utilizes approved child guidance techniques to interact with children and youth effectively.
  • Maintains professional relationships with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Assists in tracking program participation and completing necessary daily documentation.

Facility Management:

  • Prepares and organizes indoor and outdoor spaces and materials to align with daily schedules.
  • Supervises children in various settings, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Assists in providing appropriate snacks and meals as needed.

Care Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine caregiving tasks, including welcoming children, engaging with them, and addressing their physical needs.
  • Ensures that care is delivered according to established standards, conducts health checks, and interacts with parents regarding their children's progress.

Additional Duties:

May perform other related tasks as assigned to support the overall mission of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum age of 18 years.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with children, youth, and colleagues.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, and to engage in activities that require sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
  • Preferred: Prior experience working with children and/or youth.
