We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Education Professional to join our team at the Coast Guard Community Services Command. As a Child Development Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality educational programs and services to children and families.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and execute early childhood education and development activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth in children.
- Teach children using a variety of educational materials and programs, and collaborate with parents to promote understanding and follow-up actions benefiting the children.
- Supervise classroom assistants or volunteers to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Ensure that program plans and activities incorporate the observed needs of individual children and youth.
- Implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children.
- Prepare and implement program options for children and youth with special requirements.
- Demonstrate, instruct, lead, and facilitate planned and spontaneous program activities that promote developmentally appropriate practice and classroom or activity area management techniques.
- Promote and model safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
- Help prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials.
- Inventory equipment on a recurring basis and recommend replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies.
- Establish a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults.
- Help arrange for and/or serve appropriate snacks or meals where applicable.
- Interact with children using approved child guidance development techniques.
- Two-year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or a related field of study, which can include Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, Psychology, Social Work, Home Economics with an emphasis in Human Development, or other degrees as appropriate and two years of experience.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete a background investigation - National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI), upon hiring and renew every 5 years.
- Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
- A BA/BS degree in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or other degree appropriate to the position from an accredited college or Associate of Arts (AA) degree and at least 2 years experience in childcare or preschool environment.
