We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Nurse Specialist to join our team at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists. As a key member of our emergency and critical care team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients.
Responsibilities and Functions- Emergency Triage and Patient Care: Perform emergency triage, obtain vitals, gather health histories, and document interactions, information, and observations using electronic medical records.
- Critical Care Support: Assist in stabilizing critically ill patients as they present to the emergency department.
- Technical Skills: Utilize technical skills to perform exceptional medical care, including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and diagnostic imaging.
- Procedure Assistance: Assist emergency clinicians with procedures through induction, prep, monitoring, and recovery.
- Advanced Nursing: Provide advanced nursing to critically ill patients utilizing sophisticated technical skills, exceptional communication and advocacy, and compassionate care.
- Team Collaboration: Be a fundamental member of each patient's healthcare team through advocacy, collaboration, communication, and inpatient and outpatient teamwork.
- Certifications: Current CVT, LVT, or RVT, or the ability to obtain licensure within six months, is strongly preferred. VTS (ECC) preferred, or the desire to earn a specialization.
- Experience: Two years of veterinary ECC experience is required. Experience in anesthesia and monitoring of emergency procedures (such as wound repairs) is also required.
- Communication and Time Management: Excellent communication and time management skills are essential for this role.
- Team Player: Enthusiastic team player with a patient and positive professional attitude.
- Attention to Detail: Must be able to anticipate patient and team needs and be detail-oriented due to the high level of quality medicine.
- Stress Management: Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to apply critical thinking to problem-solving and to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Work Schedule: This swing shift position is from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and includes weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
