The Peer Recovery Specialist plays a vital role in the success of our Wellness Center, working closely with the Center Manager and members to plan and implement operations that promote recovery and wellness. This position requires a strong understanding of peer support principles, mutuality, and wellness, as well as the ability to develop community resources and partnerships to meet the needs of the community and members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Center Manager and members to plan and conduct all aspects of day-to-day operations of the center.
  • Model principles of peer support, mutuality, and wellness in all interactions with members.
  • Implement Center policies and procedures to ensure a safe and supportive environment for members.
  • Support members in their recovery journey by providing individual peer support and connecting them with community resources and services.
  • Train members on the negative health and social consequences of substance use disorders.
  • Coordinate Allies of Recovery and Friends of Recovery groups to provide a supportive community for members.
  • Offer referrals to members regarding wellness, recovery, peer support, and community services.
  • Collaborate with the Center Manager to provide individual peer support as needed.
  • Work with the Center Manager on community relations and marketing of the center.
  • Assist members in identifying personal goals for recovery using one-to-one and group meetings.
  • Participate in fund/resource raising activities as part of the CSPNJ corporate/small business fundraising initiatives.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification as a peer specialist in SUD or MH.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of wellness, the mental health system, and community resources.
  • Ability to make and maintain contacts and positive relationships with individuals who receive or have received mental health and/or substance abuse services.
  • Willingness to disclose current or prior use of mental health and/or addiction services and speak openly on aspects of their individual recovery.
  • Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Valid NJ Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their own life experience dealing with mental health/substance use issues to inspire and support others.

Compensation details: $21.63 Hourly Wage
