About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Materials Engineer to join our team in Andover, MA. As a key member of our Mechanical Team, you will be responsible for performing mechanical testing and analysis to support the development, design, and failure analysis of various products.

Your primary focus will be on assessing materials and parts to ensure conformance to specifications and design requirements. You will also conduct hands-on testing using laboratory techniques, follow standard protocols, and develop unique test plans and setups.

Collaboration with design and material engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is essential. You will be part of a multi-disciplined team and will be required to manage and coordinate various tasks within set schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess materials based on conformance to specifications
  • Assess parts and hardware based on conformance to design requirements
  • Conduct hands-on testing of materials using laboratory techniques
  • Follow standard written protocols and develop unique test plans and setups
  • Review material documentation and assessment of specifications
  • Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage
  • Engage with suppliers
Requirements

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 9+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience.

Experience in using laboratory equipment, such as Instron load frames, hardness testers, or microscopes, is required. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is also required, as U.S. citizenship is required for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data
  • In-depth understanding of Instrumental Analysis and laboratory techniques
  • Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
  • Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large-scale multi-disciplined scientific-based projects, including failure analysis investigations
