Job Overview

The Patient Access Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth processing of patients through the revenue cycle. This includes obtaining and verifying accurate demographic information, financially securing patients, and collecting out-of-pocket responsibility from guarantors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA, and other hospital regulations.
  • Provide excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer needs and building quality relationships.
  • Ensure patient safety by properly identifying and triaging patients.
  • Answer telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner, record messages, and communicate with medical staff.
  • Provide and obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
  • Obtain, verify, and enter complete and accurate demographic information on all accounts.
  • Verify insurance benefits for all plans associated with patients.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual insurance plans.
  • Maximize the efficiency and accuracy of the collection process by pursuing collections at the time of service.
  • Scan all registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain medical records.
  • Assist with coordinating patient transfers to other hospitals when necessary.
  • Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting, required; 2 years preferred.
  • Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans and payors, required.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, strongly preferred.
