Job Summary

Arapahoe County is seeking a highly skilled HVAC/R Supervisor to join our Facilities and Fleet Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of County building systems and equipment, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for occupants and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and assign work to staff, prioritizing work requests and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Perform periodic performance appraisals and document evaluations.
  • Participate in the selection of new employees, making hiring recommendations to the Manager of Facility Systems.
  • Train staff in specific maintenance, repair, and installation methods, principles, and procedures.
  • Prepare and conduct training on Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and County safety requirements.
  • Coordinate staff involvement in remodel or new construction projects involving HVAC/R equipment.
  • Inspect and evaluate the day-to-day efforts to maintain County HVAC/R equipment, correcting discrepancies when discovered.
  • Respond to departmental requests for repairs and maintenance of HVAC/R equipment and IAQ issues.
  • Provide input for annual budget preparation and operational input regarding the Preventive Maintenance program.
  • Maintain records and reports on applicable regulatory agency requirements, inventory, equipment, and project status.
Project Management Duties
  • Identify and make recommendations for necessary improvements in relation to specific projects.
  • Identify project risks and barriers, developing strategies to mitigate and overcome them.
  • Interact and communicate with stakeholders, vendors, and project team members to ensure project deliverables are achieved on schedule and within budget.
  • Make field decisions regarding project scope and budget as necessary.
  • Create and maintain detailed project files, hard and electronic copies.
  • Research, approve, and ensure accurate documentation of purchase orders and invoices.
  • Coordinate with FFM Data and Contract Coordinator to solicit proposals, bids, and quotes from vendors, consultants, and contractors.
  • Establish and schedule project status meetings for assigned projects.
  • Accountable for managing and tracking project funds, ensuring projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent and EPA 608 Universal refrigeration certification required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with building operations/engineering in a commercial setting, maintaining HVAC/R equipment and systems in a public or non-profit environment.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or lead worker role, in any field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in performing building operations training (HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing, and Building Automation, or similar).
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in progressive responsibility in Project Management in a related trade or industry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree or HVAC/R or Refrigeration Operator certificate from ICC (International Code Council) or a HVAC/R certificate from a technical school.
  • Two semesters or classes of Management training or coursework.
  • Project Management course work or certification.
  • Enrollment or completion of an HVAC/R certification course (i.e., BOMI - Systems Maintenance Technician or Systems Maintenance Administrator Program).
Security Clearance

This position requires fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.

Work Environment

Work is performed indoors and outdoors with frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and chemical cleaners.

Physical Demands

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Spends the majority of the time upright while on the job.
  • Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 50 lbs. Uses equipment to move heavier items.
  • May be required to frequently lift heavy and awkward objects, up to 50 lbs, from ground level to waist level or higher, either on solid ground or while balancing.
  • Frequently climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, reaches, and handles while performing duties in cramped and unconventional work areas.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication. Auditory capacity to endure long-term exposure to loud noises.
  • Constant use of eye, hand, and finger coordination while using tools and machinery.
  • Physical capability to safely operate County vehicles and machinery.
