Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HVAC/R Supervisor to join our team at Arapahoe County. As a key member of our Facilities and Fleet Management department, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our building systems and equipment, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our occupants and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and assign work to staff, prioritizing tasks and ensuring optimal availability of personnel.
  • Perform periodic performance appraisals and document evaluations.
  • Participate in the selection of new employees, making hiring recommendations to the Manager of Facility Systems.
  • Train staff in specific maintenance, repair, and installation methods, principles, and procedures.
  • Prepare and conduct training on Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and County safety requirements.
  • Inspect and evaluate the day-to-day efforts to keep County HVAC/R equipment functioning efficiently, safely, and comfortably.
  • Coordinate staff involvement in remodel or new construction projects involving HVAC/R equipment.
  • Respond to departmental requests for repairs and maintenance of HVAC/R equipment and IAQ issues.
  • Provide input for annual budget preparation and operational input regarding the Preventive Maintenance program.
  • Maintain records and reports on applicable regulatory agency requirements, inventory, equipment, and project status.
  • Determine the appropriate amount of supplies and equipment required for each shift and submit orders for approval.
  • Approve invoices of staff purchases and purchasing cards, ensuring they are appropriate, completely documented, and necessary.
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations and be available for snowstorms and other critical events.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent and EPA 608 Universal refrigeration certification required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with building operations/engineering in a commercial setting while maintaining HVAC/R equipment and systems in a public or non-profit environment similar.
  • Two (2) years experience in a supervisory or lead worker role, in any field, is required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in performing building operations training (HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing, and Building Automation, or similar) is required.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience of progressive responsibility in Project Management in a related trade or industry is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree or HVAC/R or Refrigeration Operator certificate from ICC (International Code Council) or a HVAC/R certificate from a technical school.
  • Two semesters or classes of Management training or coursework.
  • Project Management course work or certification.
  • Enrollment or completion of an HVAC/R certification course (i.e., BOMI - Systems Maintenance Technician or Systems Maintenance Administrator Program).
Work Environment

Work is performed indoors and outdoors with frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and chemical cleaners. The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Spends the majority of the time upright while on the job.
  • Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 50 lbs. Uses equipment to move heavier items.
  • May be required to frequently lift heavy and awkward objects, up to 50 lbs, from ground level to waist level or higher, either on solid ground or while balancing.
  • Frequently climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, reaches, and handles while performing duties in cramped and unconventional work areas.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication. Auditory capacity to endure long-term exposure to loud noises.
  • Constant use of eye, hand, and finger coordination while using tools and machinery.
  • Physical capability to safely operate County vehicles and machinery.
