We are a leading manufacturer of baby gear and juvenile products, committed to providing high-quality products that meet the highest safety standards. We are seeking an experienced Compliance Director to join our team and lead our compliance efforts.

Responsibilities

Compliance and Regulatory Deliverables:

  • Provide oversight and leadership in ensuring product compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement compliance strategies to minimize risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Product Development Process:

  • Monitor and advise on the impact of regulatory changes on product development.
  • Conduct safety and risk assessments on new products.
  • Review and develop instruction manuals and labels.
  • Review marketing assets for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Establish test requirements and quality plans.
  • Schedule testing and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Ongoing Production Support/Quality Initiatives:

  • Review and support customer service inquiries and issues.
  • Identify and propose product quality improvements.
  • Review product returns and conduct product audits.
  • Request factory-level audits and support logistics and account services as needed.

Company Representation/Participation:

  • Represent the company in industry committees and standards development organizations.
  • Participate in ASTM committees and standards development.
  • Represent the company in ISO technical expert participation.

Legal Representative:

  • Provide regulatory expertise to the company's legal team.
  • Represent the company before regulatory agencies and at industry conferences and events.
  • Provide strategic counsel on pending legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Monitor global regulatory trends and activities.
  • Provide regulatory expertise to R&D and Engineering Teams.

Team Development and Management:

  • Provide leadership and coaching to the Compliance team.
  • Develop and implement training programs for the Compliance team.
  • Manage day-to-day responsibilities of assigned product design group.
  • Review and elevate work of direct reports.
  • Conduct performance discussions and approve paid time off requests.
  • Participate in recruiting and hiring of talented engineers, designers, and technical staff.
  • Oversee budget items and approvals for spending.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Experience, Knowledge & Education:

  • Eight to ten years of relevant work experience in compliance environment, preferably in consumer or juvenile products industry.
  • Five years of relevant work experience in compliance environment, preferably in consumer or juvenile products industry.
  • Extensive experience in consumer goods industry preferred.
  • Experience in juvenile product standards (ASTM, CPSC, and NHTSA).
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of statutory/regulatory requirements.
  • Exceptional understanding of product development process and common materials used in manufacturing of juvenile products.
  • Superior command of quality systems, data analysis, documentation practices, and processes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing: injection molding and plastics.
  • BS degree in engineering required.

  • Impeccable attention to detail and ability to spot errors and inconsistencies.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and root cause analysis concepts and methodologies.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced professional office environment, remaining poised under pressure or opposition.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and prioritizing workloads and deadlines, as well as managing and following through on multiple tasks.
  • Passion for continuous improvement in all tasks and processes.
  • Ability to coach others to improve their performance, as demonstrated by regular provision of positive, encouraging, and informative feedback.

Technology:

  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks.
  • Strong proficiency in management/quality assurance software/tools.
  • MS Office; advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to quickly acquire proficiency with new skills and technologies.

Other:

  • Ability to work extended hours as business needs warrant, including nights and weekends.
  • Domestic travel as business needs warrant.
  • Occasional international travel as business needs warrant.
