About Us: Waterbury Ambulance Service Inc. is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to delivering outstanding 911 emergency medical services to Waterbury, Duxbury, parts of Moretown, and neighboring communities through collaborative support. With a dedicated team of over 30 volunteers, two full-time staff members, and several per-diem employees, we handle approximately 800 emergency calls annually. Our services also include community training initiatives, COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics, and Search & Rescue operations in remote and mountainous regions.
Position Overview: As the Chief Executive Officer, you will guide Waterbury Ambulance Service Inc., ensuring operational excellence, financial health, and a superior standard of emergency medical care. Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, you will oversee a team of paid staff and volunteers to achieve our mission. This role demands a dynamic leader with a robust background in emergency medical services and nonprofit administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Implement the directives and priorities set by the Board of Trustees.
- Oversee and mentor all staff and volunteers.
- Manage operations to guarantee readiness and efficiency.
- Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for staff and volunteers.
- Conduct regular performance assessments and provide constructive feedback.
- Establish and uphold HR policies and procedures in accordance with legal standards.
- Manage staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture, addressing conflicts or issues promptly.
- Facilitate ongoing training and professional development for staff.
Financial Oversight:
- Oversee and manage the organizational budget.
- Monitor expenditures and adjust financial strategies as necessary.
- Prepare and submit grant applications and contracts to funding bodies.
- Ensure accurate billing and accountability for services rendered.
Communication and Coordination:
- Maintain regular communication with staff, volunteers, and board members.
- Provide updates on organizational status and relevant legislative matters.
- Act as the primary contact for operational and personnel inquiries.
External Relations:
- Serve as the liaison to district and state entities, EMS systems, local select boards, and neighboring agencies.
- Act as the primary contact for the District Medical Director.
Strategic Planning:
- Engage in the design and execution of long-term strategic initiatives.
Professional Development:
- Participate in seminars, conferences, and workshops to remain informed about trends in emergency response and training.
Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergencies as required and serve as a member of the squad at the ALS Provider level.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of experience as a nonprofit Executive Director or equivalent.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and Donor Database Software.
- Experience managing an annual operating budget.
- Ability to oversee budgets, financial records, and grant applications.
- Current NREMT Certified Paramedic or AEMT, and a valid State of Vermont Paramedic or AEMT license.
- High performance CPR, AHA BLS Instructor, Stop the Bleed, ACLS, and PEPP certifications to be obtained within six months.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Significant physical strength and dexterity to operate in challenging environments.
- Ability to manage stressful situations and maintain composure under pressure.
- Thorough understanding of current standards of care, including equipment functions and uses.
