Job Description

**Automation Engineer Role**

We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join our team at SMS group Inc. As an Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing PLC-based automation control systems for Level 1 control systems in Electric Arc Furnaces, Vacuum Tank Degassers, Continuous Casters, Hot and Cold Rolling Mills, and Metallurgy and Process Line equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop PLC-based automation control systems, including motion control, advanced sensors, VFD drives, and actuators.
  • Perform Level 1 control system programming based on function descriptions and mechanical and hydraulic layouts.
  • Develop and implement new and improved engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Interface and communicate with local project teams, internal experts, customers, and suppliers to provide engineering solutions to technical issues and project-related matters.
  • Conduct integrated testing and simulation of entire systems before delivery to the end customer.
  • Perform on-site commissioning and training as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Experience in automation and/or automation practices.
  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal or Rockwell RSlogix5000 preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply engineering principles to the solution of design problems.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Be willing to travel to support project work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent computer skills.
