The individual in this role is responsible for administering radiation therapy to patients while executing various technical functions related to tumor localization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Administers therapeutic radiation as per the directives and prescriptions provided by the Radiation Oncologist, ensuring the accuracy of dosage to mitigate errors.
2. Captures and interprets port images to verify precision; ensures that the images are reviewed and sanctioned by a Radiation Oncologist.
3. Prepares the treatment environment and apparatus for patients, including the setup of immobilization devices, field parameters, and beam shaping. Communicates procedures and prepares patients for treatment.
4. Monitors and reports any changes in the patient's condition to the Radiation Oncologist or radiation therapy nurse. Documents treatments administered in patient records and verification systems.
5. Conducts chart reviews and addresses any discrepancies.
6. Performs daily quality assurance and safety checks as mandated by regulations.
7. Ensures that equipment is maintained in a safe and operational state, reporting any defects or issues to the chief technologist or medical physicist.
8. Keeps the work area clean and organized, restocking supplies as necessary.
9. Undertakes additional related duties as required.
Qualifications
Graduate of an AMA-accredited program in radiation therapy.
Minimum of one year of experience in clinical therapeutic radiation therapy, with clinical rotations in accredited programs considered.
Possession of a NYS Radiation Therapist License.
