JOB SUMMARY

This role plays a crucial part in the success of Essen Bakery by supporting management in overseeing store activities during designated shifts while guiding the team and executing assigned administrative responsibilities. The Cafe Operations Supervisor is tasked with deploying personnel and assigning duties to ensure that team members foster a welcoming atmosphere for our esteemed customers. This position requires the supervisor to stay informed about all new offerings, promotions, events, and updates, and to relay this information to the staff at the start and/or conclusion of each shift. The Cafe Operations Supervisor serves as a key representative of customer service, addressing any inquiries or concerns from customers that cannot be resolved by other team members or management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Exhibits integrity, honesty, and knowledge that enhance the culture, values, and mission of Essen Bakery. Maintains composure during peak times or unexpected situations to uphold store standards and set a positive example for other team members.
  • Proactively assesses customer and store needs by continually observing the environment and patrons for cues. Communicates relevant information to the staff or management to ensure a welcoming atmosphere during each shift.
  • Organizes staffing based on expected business volume while ensuring all roles are filled as necessary and labor cost targets are achieved.
  • Assists in the recruitment and training of new team members by positively reinforcing successful performance and providing respectful coaching as needed. Offers feedback to management regarding staff performance.
  • Fosters a positive work environment by identifying shifts in staff morale and performance and communicating these observations to the assistant manager or ownership.
  • Creates a constructive learning environment by delivering clear, specific, timely, and respectful coaching and feedback to team members during shifts to ensure operational excellence and enhance performance.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to all patrons by maintaining a helpful attitude and positive demeanor, connecting with customers, and addressing their needs.
  • Builds strong relationships with team members by understanding and addressing their individual motivations, needs, and concerns.
  • During shifts, directs team members to various workstations to alleviate bottlenecks and maintain service efficiency. Consistently promotes a culture of speed in all tasks.
  • Ensures team members meet operational and cleanliness standards as well as service expectations.
  • Oversees store operations during scheduled shifts. Organizes, assigns, and monitors all opening and closing responsibilities of team members.
  • Adheres to operational policies and procedures, including cash handling and safety protocols, to ensure the safety of all staff during each shift.
  • Conducts bank runs as necessary to maintain appropriate cash levels at each location.
  • Opens and closes the cafe as required.
  • Complies with all policies regarding waste and employee purchases, ensuring proper practices are followed by team members.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Delivers high-quality beverages consistently for all customers by following all recipe and presentation standards. Adheres to health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Recognizes and celebrates individual and team achievements by utilizing existing organizational tools and collaborating with management to discover new, innovative, and effective recognition methods.
  • Utilizes operational tools to achieve excellence during shifts.
  • Participates in all scheduled team and management meetings, offering suggestions for improvement.
  • Fills in for colleagues as needed to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Customer service mindset and experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a customer service role within a fast-paced restaurant, coffee shop, or bakery.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, and Canva, with experience in creating documents and marketing materials being a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.
COMPENSATION
  • $18-$20/hour plus tips.
  • Free primary healthcare benefits.
  • Paid Time Off, accruing 3 hours per payroll, redeemable after 28 weeks.
