Job Summary

Rutgers University is seeking a highly skilled Educator Support Specialist to join our team within Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide confidential telephonic support and counseling services to support the mission of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consumer-friendly telephonic support and counseling services to individuals served.
  • Develop and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with individuals served to identify emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral changes that may require further support.
  • Utilize own experiences to connect and establish rapport with individuals served.
  • Promptly respond to all service requests.
  • Respond to referrals, inquiries, and other contacts with professionals, outside agencies, and other parties in a professional and cordial manner.
  • Take the initiative to identify the needs of individuals served, using language and tone that communicates respect for the individual.
  • Respond with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic issues of individuals served.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, counseling, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of teaching or school/educational experience in the New York State public school system.
  • Additional related experience can be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree.
  • Valid driver's license or alternate means of transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some counseling experience or training preferred.
Work Environment
  • Handles phone requests under time and decision-making pressure.
  • Generally pleasant working conditions in a clean, well-lighted, and quiet to moderately loud setting.
Special Conditions
  • Travel may be required.
