Position Title: Educational Support Advisor at Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare

Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare is seeking an Educational Support Advisor to collaborate with New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) in providing essential support services.

About the Organization: Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare is dedicated to delivering confidential telephonic assistance and counseling, aligned with the mission of NYSUT.

The primary function of the Educational Support Advisor is to deliver telephonic assistance and counseling services, showcasing expertise in educational issues while ensuring friendly and supportive interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage actively in managing telephone inquiries and requests in a supportive manner as part of the NYSUT initiative.
  • Foster and sustain peer relationships to recognize and address emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral needs.
  • Leverage personal experiences to build trust with individuals seeking support.
  • Ensure prompt responses to all service inquiries.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy in interactions with referrals and inquiries.
  • Recognize and respond to the diverse needs of individuals with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic factors.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, counseling, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in teaching or educational roles within the New York State public school system.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.

Certifications/Requirements:

  • A valid driver's license or alternative means of transportation is required.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Successful completion of the internal training program at UBHC.
  • Availability for evening and weekend shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience or training in counseling is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of sitting and computer usage.
  • Clear hearing and speech capabilities are essential.

Work Environment:

  • Managing phone inquiries in a high-pressure setting.
  • Work conditions are generally pleasant, in a clean, well-lit environment that may vary from quiet to moderately loud.
