Position Overview:
The Student Success Advisor plays a pivotal role in managing a designated group of students, offering thorough academic guidance that aligns with the Guided Pathways Principles. This role provides essential support services, acting as a key resource and primary contact for students from the moment they enroll until they achieve their educational objectives, whether that be workforce readiness or transfer to another institution. By utilizing the Guided Pathways Principles, the Student Success Advisor will help clarify students' career and educational trajectories through the formulation of career and academic plans, monitoring academic performance, and supplying necessary resources to ensure students remain on track. This position is integral to the College's initiatives aimed at enhancing enrollment, retention, and completion rates. The advisor must effectively engage with a diverse array of stakeholders within the community.Key Responsibilities:
The following are the essential functions of this role:
1. Deliver comprehensive academic advising services to students across various disciplines, including interpreting placement assessments, degree audits, and curricular requirements, as well as providing career guidance and clarifying academic policies.2. Assist students in crafting career and academic plans that encompass identifying career aspirations, selecting a program of study, planning course sequences, and defining educational goals that foster student success and retention.3. Guide students in course selection and scheduling, ensuring alignment with their career objectives.4. Ensure students are well-informed about the structure and content of academic programs, including graduation and transfer requirements.5. Act as the primary contact for students, providing information about academic decisions and their potential implications.6. Educate students on course planning and registration processes, directing them to appropriate campus resources as needed.7. Engage in targeted advising programs for specific populations, including first-year students, adult learners, veterans, and at-risk students.8. Promote student success by identifying at-risk students and referring them to appropriate resources, tracking their progress for data collection and reporting.9. Collaborate with academic program managers and department heads to create advising frameworks that enhance student success and retention.10. Monitor individual students' academic progress, responding to alerts as necessary.11. Conduct proactive outreach to current and returning students throughout the semester to monitor their progress toward their educational goals.12. Manage scheduling for student appointments, document interactions, and complete necessary administrative tasks.13. Implement best practices for advising services and the integration of technology.14. Participate in training to obtain and maintain relevant certifications.15. Collaborate with colleagues to identify innovative strategies for effective advising and support.16. Work with senior advisors to continuously improve services for a diverse student body.17. Support various initiatives aimed at enhancing enrollment, retention, and completion rates.18. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree.2. Two years of experience in a higher education setting providing academic advising.3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.4. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in counseling, education, or a related field.2. Experience in implementing student retention and success initiatives.3. Familiarity with integrated student information systems.4. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.5. Knowledge of Guided Pathways Principles or similar frameworks.6. Experience working with specific student demographics.

Work Schedule:

8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday
Occasional evenings
