Job Summary

We are seeking a Patient Service Representative to join our team at our Littleton (Lake Gaston), North Carolina family medical office. As a Patient Service Representative, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to our patients and callers, responding to their inquiries, and resolving their issues in a friendly and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to telephone inquiries from patients and callers in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide information on our organization's programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Collect, enter, and update patient demographic information into our electronic health record system.
  • Refer patients to our nursing staff for triage and medical advice.
  • Schedule appointments and handle cancellations.
  • Make reminder calls for next-day appointments and inform patients of any necessary items to bring.
  • Communicate with patients about requirements for their next visit, such as paying outstanding balances.
  • Explain clinic regulations, such as hours, payment of accounts, and schedule of charges.
  • Reduce barriers by improving linkages to services.
  • Participate in internal and external educational opportunities relevant to the call center or customer service environment.
  • Respond to irate callers in a professional manner.
  • Support organizational changes and demonstrate flexibility in providing coverage and/or availability for the call center.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Requirements
  • Experience in a call center environment is required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in an outpatient medical office setting is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding when carrying out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective, professional relationships with patients, providers, coworkers, and superiors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to maintain patient respect and dignity while displaying maturity, empathy, ethics, and professionalism.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess knowledge of modern office equipment and basic computer skills.
