Position Title: Electrical Maintenance Technician

Position Overview:

The Electrical Maintenance Technician will collaborate closely with a fellow electrician in a diverse campus setting. Responsibilities include responding to service requests, executing work orders, and performing preventative maintenance on a wide range of electrical systems. The technician will set objectives to gain a comprehensive understanding of both normal and emergency power distribution circuits across the campus. Tasks may involve the replacement, repair, and upkeep of electrical systems associated with the facilities. Familiarity with fire life safety systems is advantageous. The role may also require collaboration with other trades in areas such as control systems, plumbing, HVAC units, pumps, and heat exchangers. The position entails physical demands, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various temperature conditions. The technician will be expected to act swiftly in emergency situations or system failures and will oversee designated utility mechanics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of all electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA70e standards.
  • Implement safety protocols through Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
  • Install or repair electrical circuits as necessary.
  • Upgrade lighting fixtures to LED as assigned.
  • Conduct minor electrical tasks, including bulb and ballast replacements.
  • Regularly operate and inspect emergency generators and related components.
  • Order materials required for necessary repairs.
  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance, both independently and in conjunction with vendors.
  • Inspect electrical systems, trace circuits, operate switchgear, document inspections, and prepare reports for supervisors.
  • Perform additional duties as required within the scope of contractual obligations.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in relevant electrical trades or completion of a trade school program in Electrical Maintenance or Journeyman disciplines.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a commercial environment involving electrical systems, emergency power, or electronic systems.
  • Experience in data center operations is preferred.
  • Proven ability to repair building electrical components and systems.
  • Experience in safely securing electrical systems for maintenance.
  • Proficient in using a multimeter.
  • Strong understanding of building auxiliary systems, including fire-life safety and standby emergency generators.
  • Familiarity with general building systems, such as vertical lift equipment and overhead doors.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to operate vehicles, including up to 1-1/2-ton trucks.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures typical for maintenance operations.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks, including wearing a respirator, climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and lifting heavy objects.
  • Skilled in the safe use of various hand and power tools.

Shift: 1st or 3rd shift
