R&D Principal Investigator

We are seeking a highly skilled R&D Principal Investigator to lead our AI/ML software development team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing technical teams performing R&D for US Government labs and agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage technical teams performing R&D for US Government labs and agencies
- Work closely with small teams of CoVar engineers, providing technical mentorship, direction, and hands-on AI/ML, software, or other work as needed
- Work with the government sponsor(s) to design and manage the program requirement definitions, design, testing, and deployment
- Meet regularly with stakeholders to provide progress reports, solicit feedback, and review project goals
- Help CoVar identify and secure new funding opportunities to further grow the business
Requirements:
- Proficient in Python with experience in scientific computing (NumPy, etc.), Machine Learning, and Deep Learning
- B.S. in CS, engineering, math, or related field plus 7 years of experience, or an advanced degree in relevant field plus 3 years of experience. At least two years of project leadership experience. Successful record of securing and executing on government R&D contracts preferred.
- Exceptional project management skills with a record of successfully leading engineering projects for U.S. Government agencies
- Experience with software development processes, including agile workflows, version control, documentation, code reviews, and testing
- Customer-service oriented; excellent written and spoken technical communication skills
- Ability to work in Durham, NC (relocation assistance available)
- Eligibility for US security clearance (US citizenship is required)
